Accenture Award

One of the highlights of my time at Boston College was being presented with the Accenture Award, a prize given to the top graduating senior in the Computer Science department. Pictured: Dr. Howard Straubing, just after the presentation.

Microsoft Internship

I spent the summer after my junior year of study interning at Microsoft. I spend most of my time researching and implementing new ways to detect and combat malware. I had the good fortune of meeting Steve Ballmer (pictured) and visiting Bill Gates at his house for dinner.

IBM Extreme Blue

When I first heard about IBM Extreme Blue, I was determined to obtain a spot in this internship by the conclusion of my studies at Boston College. Much to my surprise, my opportunity to 'start something big' was made available following my sophomore year. I had a great experience working out of their Austin, TX lab where I learned a great deal about software development and public speaking.

Travel

I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel to Israel, France, China, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Vietnam (pictured). Fun fact- Of the 12 days I reserved for my travel to Asia, 2.5 were spent in the air.

TechTrek

During the spring semester of my junior year at Boston College, I was admitted into a special class combined field study called "TechTrek". This highly acclaimed course provided a phenomenal, case study-driven education on the successful components of technology-oriented businesses.

Exploring

I have picked up the habit of exploring areas and (campus) buildings not strictly open or available to the public. I primarily blame my old roommates for this.

Ice Hockey

I am an avid fan of Ice Hockey, and play whenever I have the opportunity. I started playing during my senior year of undergraduate study, after a number of years of experience playing roller hockey. I have organized and currently teach a "Learn to Skate / Learn to Play Hockey" clinic every week in Northford, CT. Participants are only charged for ice time, and learn how to skate and play hockey over a 10-week period. I also play roller hockey with a group of graduate students on a regular basis outside of the Yale computer science building at 51 Prospect St.

Entrepreneurship

When I'm not busy with my research or extracurriculars, I tend to try to come up with ideas for websites or other businesses. At any given time, it is safe to assume that I have one side-project going that will likely never make it out of prototype stage.

Capoeira

One of my longest-standing hobbies is practicing Capoeira. I have been studying since the age of 16 (Feb. 2002). I helped start the Capoeira group at Boston College, in coordination with the Brazilian Club, and led classes during my junior year. I currently teach Capoeira at Yale University. Classes are free and anyone interested need only e-mail me to enroll. While travelling in Singapore I stumbled across a Capoeira organization's practicing grounds at Siloso Beach (pictured).

Cooking

Plato tells us that necessity is the mother of invention. Living without the safety net of the campus dining halls during my summer internships and post-graduation residence has inspired me to learn how to cook more than 'easy mac' dinners. In this picture, I am finishing up a meal for 15 of my fellow CS majors at Prof. Lowrie's house.
